Birth of a HomeGame

Huzzah and welcome to this behind the scenes look at the inner workings of HG Central. During this tour you shall learn how a HomeGame page comes into being. Many other places have tired to emulate our success, but for the first time, we will show you exactly what goes into making an authentic HomeGame product. The following pages are rather graphic intense so be warned.

Stage One

The first stage to any HomeGame page is choosing the game to be played. After visiting a few sites and getting an idea of what's available, an intense meeting of the HG Illuminati selects the schedual for the week. This is put on the front page as well as being sent to various people.

Stage Two

The second stage is where the actual game is played. At this time, someone runs a log of the session as well as someone takes video captures (vidcaps) of the particular show. The game we are dealing with in this file is "Nightbreed". These files are then kept for later html archiving. Here is the unedited log of the session as well as all of the vid caps.

Stage Three

Stage three is finally where we start to see the various aspects come together. Someone, one of the regular pagemakers, has finally requested the "Nightbreed" page and has been sent the log as well as the vidcaps. All regular pagemakers have been put through rigorous training so that they may be able to produce the desired results, while still being able to interject some of their own style into the project. This is where HomeGame pages really stand out. Rather than just being carbon copies of all other pages, or being so totally different that it's hard to jump from one page to another and find information you are looking for, the HomeGame style strikes a cord somewhere in the middle. Once they recieve the files, we move to stage four.

Stage Four

Stage four, five, and six are all interchangable and really depend on the order the pagemaker chooses. In this instance, I have choosen to show the text stage first. The pagemaker takes the log and edits it down to it's comic core, culling any unneccessary bits and making the log a much easier and funnier read. There is an art to this. When to cut a piece and when to leave it is a judgment call that many aren't able to make without the proper training. Now check the edited log. It's the main staple of a HomeGame page.

Stage Five

Now we look at all our vidcaps and pick what we'd like to go where.

Stage Six

Quotes from the movie are often typed in by those that know what's best to pick. Those are culled together for use and the best ones are chosen to hit the page.

Stage Seven

Now we are ready to start plugging in our pieces. We start with this basic template.

Stage Eight

Here is it with the edited log, quotes, and Director/Writer info filled in. Let's call it the Alpha version.

Stage Nine

It's time for a bit of graphics work. We'll need to make the board graphic that rests in the upper right as well as inserting the vidcaps along the right side of the page. This is the Beta version.

Stage Ten

It's really starting to look nice now, isn't it? Now we just have to do a small bit of tweaking on a few small details and add the movie synopsis and this page will be finished except for that personal touch that all offical HomeGame pages get. Finally we have the Gamma verison, which in this case, is the final version.

I hope you have enjoyed and learned a bit of what really goes into an offical HomeGame page. Never be fooled by a low quality bootleg or rip-off again.
