Welcome. Finally those of you at home can learn how to make your very own Phantasm driller balls. Please use any and all caution you can muster. Also if you make a sphere, it attacks and kills a few people, don't blame us.

We'll start off with a list of the items needed.

(1) Chromed Ornament

(2) pieces of "friendly plastic"

(1) Xacto knife, or other cutting impliment

(1) Something to heat your knife so that it's red hot

(1) can of silver (or gold, depending on what project you are doing) chrome spray enamel

(1) large silver wood screw (about 3/4" long)

(1) Scribe or large nail

(1) A medium size sewing needle

(1) Pair of wire cutters

(1) Pair of pliers

(1) Tube of Testor's or equivalent model glue

Step 1:

First you will need to get ahold of the Christmas ornament. These are a silver color and the two halves of the sphere snap together. They generally look like the following image. Ignore the two slits, these are made later in the project. If you plan on making the golden "Tall Man" sphere, please look for a golden one, or pick up a can of gold chrome paint. Please, don't huff. Just take the pliers and cut off the hanging nubs that are on the ornament. This will give you a smooth surface all over once it's closed.

Step 2:

Now take one half, chrome side facing you, and make two small line around 2 inches apart, and no longer that the base of your blades will be, not the flair on them, but the small stem of the blades. Heat your knife until it is red hot and start cutting this opening, being careful not to make it too large as it will leave you with droopy blades. You will have to reheat your blade a few times. Also you may have to make a few touch-ups with your paint and a brush. Now choose an area that is inbetween the slits, but a bit below. This is where your silver screw will go. You can heat the screw itself and use it, holding it with the pliers as not to burn your hand, to drill it's own hole. As always, do not make the hole too large. You should end up with something that looks like the following pic.

Step 3:

Lets make the blades now. Get your friendly plastic. These are plastic strips that when heated can be molded around. Just take your strips and your nail and draw something similar to the pattern to the right. Be creative. You will need two of these for the silver balls, but three for a golden one. Make the back stem longer than what you think you need to make it because it needs to reach the other side of the sphere so that it can be attached to hold the blades firmly. Cut these out carefully and then chrome them totally. Set aside and let them dry for a while.

Step4:

Now, you are ready for final assembly. Position your blades in through the slits in your sphere, allowing about 1/8" to come inside. Seal with model glue the area around the stem (inside the sphere only, no glue outside) of both blades, making sure they are protruding evenly with one another. Now position your silver wood screw, pushing it out through its own hole, all the way to the screw head. Seal the edge of the screw head (if needed) with glue, although this is not always needed, if the fit is snug enough through the hole. Let this half of the sphere sit overnight, for the glue to dry. The next day, gently snap the two halves together, and you have your own Phantasm Silver Sentinel replica! Make 22 more and recreate the following scene!
