CBS and the shadow government

CBS President Frank Stanton was one of six private citizens secretly recruited and granted authority by President Eisenhower to run major components of the government if a Soviet attack wiped out many American leaders.

No public announcement of the appointments was made. Their existence was confirmed by recently publicized Eisenhower administration letters.

San Francisco, July 6. — The Taft party to-day visited the Bohemian grove of redwoods, near Guerneville, Sonoma County, as guests of President W.A. Foster, of the California Northeastern Railroad. Miss Roosevelt appeared on the rear platform at all stations, greatly to the delight of the crowds that desired to get a glimpse of the President’s daughter.
