Sci-Fi Channel picks up MST3k!

But there’s still something to write about!!

Bite me, Comedy Central, it’s fun!

My extremely popular website is obsolete, and I’m elated! Why?
The Sci-Fi Channel announced June 24, 1996 that they had picked up Mystery Science Theater 3000 for an eighth cable season. Details are available.

This site is a standing chronicle of the triumph of the human spirit. It will tell the story of a refined group of people who would not let the best television series ever created go gently into that good night. It is the story of how different and disparate individuals and friends used a new medium to organize make a difference, in their own little way, to strike a blow for the good guys. It is the first successful campaign, I think, conducted almost entirely over the Internet to revive a television show. It is the story of joy expressed in overwrought and self-important prose such as this. And, more importantly, it will stand ready to activate again in a moment’s notice, should the need arise.

Everyone who wrote to Comedy Central, Sci-Fi, chipped in for the ad in Variety or otherwise helped out deserves the highest possible reward. And we’ll be getting it about eight months from now! And let’s not forget who made all this possible in the first place: those singularly brilliant minds at Best Brains who gave us MST. Gentlemen, ladies, (and Crow), we thank you.

Everyone who is so inclined should write to the Sci-Fi Channel, and thank them. And don’t forget to suggest they may want to pick up a few more seasons while they’re at it. And some of us get to feel the ultimate joy. We get to call our local cable operator, and tell them to drop Comedy Central for the express purpose of adding Sci-Fi. The only possible downside I see to this is that they’ll be restricted to watching science fiction and horror type movies. Some of my favorites have been the teen exploitation flicks. Anyway, I’m too elated to complain much about that right now.

And now that MST has slipped the bonds of Comedy Central forever, allow me to say one thing to Mr. Doug Herzog: You, sir, are a dickweed.
