Man, I wish there were like 3 more hours in a day. I’ve been so busy all the time recently. And sleep deprived. And addicted to The Sims. I want to drop orchestra, but the last drop date was last Friday. Dammit. At least the regrade of my Investments midterm pushed me up from a B to an A. Now I just wish I could get my LSAT scores back!

So I totally forgot that I don’t have FIN321 today, and so I’m sitting in the DKH computer lab with nothing to do. If only I had some of my homework with me. Or even better, my laptop and The Sims. Mmmmm…..The Sims……

So I went to the Cub’s game yesterday, and it was so much fun! Only problem is that I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so sunny, so both Pat and I got really bad sunburns. I look especially freakish with my sunglasses-tan.

We were sitting in the bleachers in the first row, so we were really close to the outfielders. Unfortunately no one hit a home run anywhere near our section. 🙁 We were sitting right next to a big group of really drunk people. Actually several groups of really drunk people, and they were really cool. At one point we actually made Houston’s center fielder Hidalgo switch with the right fielder because we were giving him so much crap. And to make a fun time even more fun, the cubs actually won for once. Yay! And I discovered that they serve frozen tropical drinks at the park in addition to beer…..yummy!

“Hey Hidalgo! Your center fielding skills are below average!” -My favorite insult of the day.

I’ve been neglecting this thing lately…bad Thayer! But school has got me pretty beat. It doesn’t help that I’m like dying of consumption or something as well. I’ve been coughing non-stop for nearly a week. Bleh. You know what is depressing? The Chicago Cubs. I finally take an interest in baseball this year, and the Cubs are doing great, but my mom tells me not to get my hopes up, because they always blow it in September. Well guess what….yes, they’re blowing it in September. 13-1 last night against the Pirates. How pathetic is that? We better win on Sunday when I’m gonna be at the game. I hope my sweetie Kerry Wood is playing. He’s dreamy….

I assume that anyone who isn’t living in a hole in the ground (and therefore would have no internet access anyway) has heard about the terrorist attack that happened today. I was in class since 8am this morning, so I only heard bits and pieces until my investments class this afternoon where my professor was barely able to make it through her lecture. It’s just so insane. So many people are dead. I am thanking my lucky stars that I didn’t graduate before now, because as a finance major, I would have had a good chance of working in New York. All of the major financial companies had offices in the World Trade Center. I find myself craving retribution, but I am afraid that in an effort to place blame, the US will most likely choose a scapegoat without having actual proof of guilt. Many people seem to think that we will be at war soon, although I have no idea with whom. That makes me worry for all my friends who are in the military or might possibly be drafted. What a shitty day.

My friends, you will be happy to know that I just won an ebay auction for a new pair of maracas, and so there shall soon be Samba de Amigo once again at my house. Woohoo!

And, on another happy note, I am done with my online psychology course! I can graduate! Woohoo again!

And it’s Friday, which means bars and drinking. Today is a good day.

I got the digital camera, and boy is it fun! Check out pictures I took this weekend here. Did lots of partying this weekend. It was fun, but now I’m so wiped out! I think I need to spend a couple nights staying home and watching TV or something.

I had tamago sushi for the first time last night and it was so yummy! They add sugar to the egg so it’s all sweet. And it’s the cheapest kind, which makes it even better!

Oh man, people are going to be at my house on Monday night, which means that I have to clean……this is so bad. I also have to get 3 psychology lessons done this weekend so I can take the final next week and have all my Gen. Ed. requirements to graduate. Aaaaaaaaaaah! I think I shall take a break at some point to get some pictures develloped, and if I’m feeling really ambitious, scan them in and put them up in the photos section. I need to get a digital camera.

So on Saturday I went to Indiana with Chris to buy Powerball tickets. Unfortunately I didn’t win the $280 million. Bummer. I did, however, win a big $4. Woo! Like I’m likely to be getting out to Indiana again in the near future to cash the ticket though.

Today I did a psychology experiment on Chris. The exercise was to rate the stress or change on your life of different events. He rated the death of a grandparent as being equally stressful as having his TV break. Real sensitive there, Chris.

So I went to Tennessee this weekend to see my cousins. The south is so weird. People talk funny. There were stray dogs *everywhere*. The drive was really pretty though – there were mountains, something you don’t see around here.

I’m so sad that school is starting so soon. No more drinking every night. Or nearly every night at least. At least everyone is back in town again. That’ll almost make up for the fact that some people will hardly be seen anymore due to their girlfriends’ return…

Goddamit, the students are back. People are driving like retards all over town. (Even more so than usual). I saw three boys who can’t have been more than like 16, driving a lexus SUV the wrong way down a one way street. Damn them! Damn them all to hell! Not to mention that there’s no longer any parking spots on campus. Bleh.

And textbooks for 4 classes cost $412. WTF.

Anyone who reads my posts on .test will already have heard this story, but that’s ok. Read it again. So we went to go see American Pie 2 tonight. We waited in line for like 15 minutes, but our plan was thwarted by the fact that the movie was sold out. All the damn high school kids, no doubt. Chad and I still had a good laugh though. While we were standing in line, Guanyao had gone to buy food. Since the movie was sold out, he got to leave the movie theater holding his $6 small drink and popcorn. Ha-ha.

. . .

1:18 AM

ha ha ha, Chad lost his whistle today! There’s a certain poetic justice in it as well, since apparently he used to mock his girlfriend for not being able to whistle. So who’s laughing now, Chad? Me. And probably Dawn. Except for the fact that I had to listen to him and Guanyao attempting to whistle throughout the entire drive to the movie theatre. Damn, that was annoying.

I have a feeling I am going to be embarassingly quoted out of context on Chad’s website tonight or possibly early tomorrow. That’s what I get for drinking with my “friends”.

Last night Christian came up with the idea of beef jerky clothing. That wa
y, you can go to a bar, and when you get hungry, you just take a bite out of what you’re wearing. The idea began with jackets, but then we realized that you might get cold on your way home if you ate your jacket at the bar. Then we decided that skirts were the way to go. You could start out with a skirt that was like knee-length, and then by the time you went home, your girlfriend would be wearing a mini-skirt. The boys all seemed to think this was a really good idea.

Anyone who has not gone to see Shrek yet, should go and do so. It was a really cute movie. Usually I don’t go for “cute” movies, but it had enough off-color humor to make it a good time.

. . .

7:49 PM

Hmm, what to say about Jen and Andy’s wedding. Everything went well. I was stressed about the quartet since they were my responsibility, but they played well. I was also worried about fainting due to heat and hunger, but we all stayed conscious. I’ve never gotten very sappy at weddings before, but watching my friends who I care so much about devote themselves to each other just kind of brought a tear to my eye. So silly.

The reception was 7 hours of drinking and dancing. That was fun. Especially watching the people who would never dance while sober get up and shake booty. (Erik, that means you, ha ha)

Lesson learned: Weddings are a pain in the ass. Unless you can afford a wedding planner to worry about everything for you, keep it small and simple!

My friends are getting married tomorrow. They’re younger than me. It’s scary.

3:08 PM

Last night I went to see a cool little band called The Viper and His Famous Orchestra. It had really interesting instrumentation: mandolin, bass, trombone, and suitcase (played like drums). Turns out I know the bassist from orchestra and EB. The music was very cool. What was also very cool was that my friends and I were not even nearly the geekiest people in the audience. Mike and I had the dubious pleasure of watching the dumbass in front of us frantically trying to remove his fanny-pack so he could shake his ass unencumbered. We had a good laugh. It’s a little sad because most of the people I went out with last night will be leaving in the next few days. Making friends at the end of the semester seems to be a bad idea.

We got Guanyao drunk tonight. Neither Chad nor I had ever seen that before. It was kind of funny. We also learned that he plays solitaire and hearts on his Palm Pilot while in the bathroom. We want to set him up with this chick, so if you know her, tell her that Guanyao wants her.

We watched the movie Akira last night. Boy was that fucked up. I was concentrating like crazy, and I’m still not sure what exactly was going on. The new Final Fantasy movie kinda stole a bunch of ideas from it, like a big laser cannon in outer space and a sort of energy that infuses all life on the planet. Akira however did not have million dollar animated hair.

11:20 AM

Today in Anthropology class we learned about some dude in Canada who’s done all this research on how intelligence is inversely proportional to genital size. I’m sure his hypothesis couldn’t have anything to do with trying to make him feel better about the size of his own dick.

10:28 AM

It’s funny the way coincidences work. Two days ago my roommate Tim announced that he was probably going to be moving out in a month or so to take a new job in Chicago. Then last night I run into a girl I know from the music department, and she’s looking for a place to stay in the fall. Almost makes me believe in some sort of spiritual crap.

Saw Planet of the Apes last night. Although the premise was rather creepy, a lot of the execution was just kinda funny. Like the ape sex. I was laughing my ass off. I was startled because I thought the plot was going to be the same as the first version, but although I haven’t seen that one, I know it was not the same. Decent movie though.

So last night we celebrated Jen’s last week as a spinster by having a bachelorette party. I’ll give you two scenarios, and you can pick which one is what actually happened:

1) We went to the Office, had a couple drinks, then went to our hotel room (which did not look like this), had some more drinks, watched Mtv and painted our nails until Jen passed out.

2) We went to the Office, got totally trashed, went back to our hotel room (which looked like this), stripped down to our underwear and had a big pillow fight, giggling the whole time.

First of all, thank you so very much, Chad, for changing my phone’s greeting message while I was away, and for quoting my embarassing comment on your webpage. (Those pictures were not mine, by the way!) It’s good to know that I can count on my friends for such loving abuse.

Tonight is my final orchestra concert of the summer, with the Prairie Ensemble, so if anyone is really anxious to see me play before October or so, this is it. You can actually hear me on some of the pieces, too. We’re one to a part on the Bach, and in the Ives I get to play these fucked up shadow line thingies that sound totally wrong and makes it look like i’m completely lost and playing on a different page from everyone else in the section. I really hate Ives.

So that’s 2 nights in a row that I’ve stayed late at DCL. That’s more than a little scary. At least one of the nights I had an academic reason to be here. As for the other? Well who could pass up a chance to see part of the Transformers movie? With music by Weird Al. It’s funny, it’s been so many years since I’ve heard ‘Dare to be Stupid’, but I can still remember most of the words. What that had to do with Transformers, I’m sure I have no idea. I think I need to go out drinking soon, otherwise I may turn into one of those strange people I talked about yesterday. Mmmmm…..booze….

. . .

Thursday, July 26, 2001
12:56 PM

I’ve never been at DCL at 2 in the morning until last night. The amazing thing is that there were actually other people there too. People who didn’t seem to have 3 papers to write like I did. Is there a breed of human that hangs out deep in the depths of DCL for the fun of it? People who get a rush from the glow of the monitors and the hum of the air conditioning the way that I get excited from going out to smoke-filled bars? (Like this guy) Is their genetic structure different from mine? Do they have receptors for different neurotransmitters than I do? Could there be a previously undiscovered chemical running around in people’s brains which gives them a euphoric feeling whenever they hear the hum of a case fan? Or am I just really really tired from having spent the night writing papers until the early morning? I think that’s the most likely answer.

Last night was drunken fun with a label maker night. Pictures will be up soon, although unfortunately I ran out of film before we were really covered with them.

In anthropology today we were learning about chimpanzee culture, and it was really kind of freaky how similar they are to primitive man. Made me start thinking about the new Planet of the Apes movie coming out this weekend and how that shit could actually happen someday. We also learned about a chimp child who played with a log as though it was a doll. That put “It’s log…it’s log….it’s big, it’s heavy, it’s wood….” into my head for the rest of the day.

Now it’s time to have sushi. Yum!

If any of the 3 or so people who read this are classical music lovers, you can see me playing in the prairie ensemble this Saturday at 7:30pm at Faith United Methodist Church (1719 S. Prospect, about a block south of Kirby I believe). Click on the link to find out the program. There’s some Bach, Ives, and Dvorak.

Don’t you just love it when you think you’ve failed a test and then you get it back the next day and you’ve gotten 100%? I know I do. I went out to Murphy’s to console myself last night with some friends and ended up having a really dirty conversation with Anthony Tong. I think it would probably be better to not go into details, but if you’re looking for some g

So I saw Jurassic Park 3 yesterday. It was ok I guess. Better than 2, but worse than 1. In the last scene of the movie with the pterodactyls flying away through the clouds, was anyone else expecting a 747 to swoop in and suck one of them through its engine? Maybe it’s just me.

12:30 PM

Last night I went with my friend Alison to The Embassy to see this blues singer Candy Foster. It was really cool. He sang a bunch of songs that I knew previously from the Pure Funk album. The most surreal part of it though, was the old people dancing. My dear lord, the old people dancing. There were about 10 or so women and a couple of men between the ages of 50 and 60, getting down like there was no tomorrow. It was like a scene from Cocoon or something. It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. Plus the fact that half the women weren’t wearing shoes for some reason. I hope they have some industrial strength soap at home because god only knows what has seeped into the old wooden planks of that floor over the many years that bar has been around. Probably a whole civilization of mutant termites are going about their daily routines down there or something.

Man, the guy at The Corkscrew was right, Thor’s Hammer Vodka does leave you with quite a nasty little hangover. I was trying it out as part of my new vice, chocolate martinis. Only problem with them is that they’re pretty strong, so after a couple you end up pretty drunk. Which is all well and good until the next morning when you have to wake up and go spend the day at DCL feeling like shit. Maybe having another tonight will make me feel better….

On Chad Foxglove’s suggestion I checked out the newsgroup uiuc.test today. It was pretty damn funny. It was also a little strange to see an assortment of people from my High School who I haven’t thought about in ages interacting with various random other people I know. It also reaffirms my opinion that geeks have the best senses of humor. My apologies to you, Chad, if you’re offended by that label. =)

. . .

3:20 PM

Ok, so now I’ve got this thing. Not quite sure what I’m gonna do with it yet, but so far I’m having fun playing around with the colours and stuff. I’ll take this opportunity to try out an html post and to plug the Harry Potter books which I just got done reading. Perhaps you’ve heard of them? Anyway, don’t let anyone tell you they’re just for little kids. And the trailer looks super-cool.
